What is Access & Security in Google Ads?

By visiting Google Ads’ Access & Security section, you can control who can access your account and what they can do there. You can invite other users to your account and control their level of access.  It should just take a few minutes to grant someone access to a Google Ads account.

If you’re working with a Google Ads consultant, freelancer, or marketing agency, you may want to grant them access to your Google Ads account. This enables them to run your advertisements, optimize, or even conduct an audit without requiring your login information. Authorizing them in certain ways can limit what they can accomplish. However, depending on the person or agency it is important to set the right level of access to the account.

How to share your Google Ads account?

To let someone else manage your Google Ads account, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to your Google Ads account.
  2. Press the gear icon on the top right end typically.
  3. Choose the ‘’Access and Security’’ option.
  4. Click the plus (+) button.
  5. Type the email of the recipient you would like to invite.
  6. Set permissions for how much they can do (i.e., read-only mode, modifying campaigns, etc.).
  7. Click “Send Invitation.”
  8. The person you invite will get an e-mail with the invitation to respond to.

If you’re an agency or a freelancer working with clients, you would work in the Google Ads Manager instead. In this manner, your client agrees to serve a prompt from you to be provided with access.

Examining Google Ads Access Levels

Google Ads has multiple types of access rights to your account: basic, limited, and full access. This enables you to limit everyone so that only particular people can see your account and also make some changes to it.

  • Email Only Access: This is the lowest level that enables users to receive e-mails containing account information and reports. They can’t make any changes.
  • Billing Access: These users can have read and write access to the content specifically billing information such as payment details and/or physical address.
  • Read Only Access: Users with this level can view all the information regarding your account but they can in no way modify anything.
  • Standard Access: These users can view as well as make changes to campaigns, ads, and other elements of your account. However, they do not contain the permissions for changes to the billing and account configuration.

Admin Access: This is the highest level of access since it awards the user full control over the account. It means they can have full access to the account by adding and removing users using the billing system.

Review the users linked to your account on a regular basis and delete any that are no longer needed. By taking this preventive measure, you can minimize the possibility of unwanted changes to your account and protect the authenticity of your advertising campaigns.
